HANDS IN THE GROUND

We meet the ceramist Clément Arnaud in the artist's residence House of Mimmo 2

in the heart of Belleville.

TOUCHING EVERYTHING

Having arrived in Paris 12 years ago, the painter and sculptor explains that it all started with drawing: "I have always drawn. I never really worked in a company". The multidisciplinary artist trained himself in ceramics three years ago.

GIVING LIFE TO THE EARTH

He sees this new medium as a way of giving volume and materiality to his work, as a form of continuity that we can recognize in his totems. Small characters are also present in his drawings. Clément is also a calligrapher, a talent that he exercises in particular for the invitations of luxury houses, and which has perhaps contributed to his awareness of the power of words. He also uses them in his illustrations, which are influenced by underground American comics. These give a political dimension to his work: "It has emancipated me in my way of thinking".

A CRAFTSMAN WITH A SKATER LOOK

Clément Arnaud declares that his wardrobe is "not very extravagant, but classic". The influence of skateboarding can be seen in his style, sport that he practised a long time ago: "Most of the time, people ask me if I skate, because I'm dressed like a skater". Today he also plays tennis and climbs. Being climbing a more convivial sport that brings him closer to nature, another recurrent tropism in his work
